I'm considering buying either an xbox 360 or a ps3. How far can the wifi go for each?

I live in an area with no high speed internet. My neighbours have satellite hooked up to a router and they have offered to let me use it for online gaming. Their house is about 200-300 feet away. Thanks. If it doesn't work, could I buy an adapter for my computer and strengthen the signal?I'm considering buying either an xbox 360 or a ps3. How far can the wifi go for each?
First of all, the satellite broadband will be too laggy for online play.

For normal surfing, it's great, you use a slow dial up connection to tell a server ';I want to download this huge file';, and then the satellite company will download the file, broadcast it to a satellite and this satellite will reflect it back to earth to the satellite dish of your neighbour. After a short waiting period for the download to make its way through the satellite company and it's travel to space and back, the download will be fast.

But this delay will make online play - well - unplayable.

In online gaming, you will have several *seconds* of lag for data packages, making online gaming via satellite almost unbearable.

A second problem will be, that the neighbours signal will be very weak due to the distance and probably a lot of walls between you.

The PS3 has a built in wireless antenna, that you can't amplify. So the chances to get a signal with the PS3 are probably very slim.

On the Xbox 360, you can get the WLAN adapter accessory, wich has a small antenna outside. You can use an USB extension cord and put it closer to your neighbour and also use a self-made WLAN reflector dish to enhance the signal. If your neighbour does the same with his router antenna, you can get a connection.

Instructions on how to make this antenna from tinfoil and sheets of overhead plastic foils is linked below.

But you could only use this to download demos and arcade games.

As I said above, since online gaming needs fast up and downspeeds, you won't have fun playing online.I'm considering buying either an xbox 360 or a ps3. How far can the wifi go for each?
you can buy these things that extend the signal from the router. but i would just get a regular router just for you for the same price.

GET A PS3! way better and has built in internet. :o
It depends how strong the wireless signal is for the internet.

If it's any more than 100ft I highly doubt it will pick up the signal.

What sucks even more is you have to pay for the Xbox 360's on-line.
the playstation would be the best for wifi the xbox needs an attachment on both the system and the computer to go wifi and the playstation has to be within 100 feet and the xbox has to be within150 feet so you would have to boost the signal strength. if you going for which is the best online the ps3 is free online but the xbox makes it easier to find someone because they have games like halo and gears of war
