I have been playing COD3 online for several years....I even prefer it to COD4.



BUT over the last month or so I have started having connection problems. It started out with getting disconnected during games, then it progressed to games not starting up and then it went to not even being able to get into multiplayer mode. I checked everything even wondering if the disk had gone bad but then this post on a board gave me the fix. It details how to setup a router to let your PS3 be in a DMZ.



I felt I had to share it because when online I always see many other people disconnecting and reconnecting and I figure they may be having the same problem.

I am going to buy a ps3 with wi fi connectivity this summer. I was told that you need a router and fast internet to get online. I don't have a router nor broadband speed(And parent's refuse to get both). I heard you can get connection from your neighbor's wireless network. Your internet speed doesn't need to be a super fast connection but a little faster then the standard dial up speed.



To connect you need a wireless router or modem and using that you can get a wireless connection.



You can use a ethernet cable if you don't have a wireless router or modem.



Yes you can connect to your friends wireless internet but the signal must be high enough and you may need to enter a password but only for the first time.

Your PS3 could have issues with your router if it's too strict if it's too strict if so you'll get NAT type 3 which is fine but you may have problems in some online games.



The higher the internet speed the smoother gameplay but you should be fine with a low one but you may want to upgrade in the future if there are gameplay issues.

ok i love rock band! itz so fun to play with people round the world but just a few days after getting online i went to sign in yesterday and the thing took like 20mins to tell me ';Playstation Network has timed out'; and i kept trying over and over and over again! now im not one of those people who stays home all day but when friends come over we need to play some skate. on my PS3! The message ';Playstation Network has timed out'; is generic in nature and doesn't mean much other than the obvious: your PS3 is not connecting to the net. Check your IP settings to see that you have an ip address. Also check to see your ethernet cable port is flashing it's light (to see that you have physical connection). Often times the router is not issuing an IP address to your PS3. If you have a computer attached to the router, check to see if the computer is online. Sorry so many answers but your error message is very general.Whats wrong with my PS3 online connection (time out!)?
maybe it is your router try resetting your router and try again or disconnect your PS3 from your router and reconnect it

Wireless wont lag too much compared to an ethernet cable, shouldnt really affect u that badly at that distance. I think u should use wireless if u dont want an ethernet cable running across ur house.



Either that, or for better connection if it doesnt work that well, u could try running an ethernet cable under the carpet, so it wouldnt be noticeable.

How Do I Setup PS3 Online Gaming?

Ok.. So i got a PS3 yesterday and i tryed to setup online gaming. I took the ethernet wire from my PC and plugged it into the PS3, so the ethernet wire went from the cable modem to the PS3. I then waited a few minutes and went to friends on the PS3 menu, i then pressed sign up for playstation network. It said please wait for a few seconds and then told me to check my settings, so i checked my settings and everything seemed ok. I then done what it told me to do in the PS3 manual, and it still dident work.I do not have a router or anything like that, i'm with virgin media and have a wired internet connection.



What am i doing wrong and how do i get it too work?

In Network settings have you selected wired internet connection and set up everything correctly.

I personally do not have virgin internet connection but I have PS3 and a friend with a PS3 and virgin internet and all he had to do was plug in an ethernet cable ,select wired connection and follow on-screen instructions.

Hi, i got a new ps3 about 2 weeks ago and i wanted to play online. I have wireless internet and was able to set up an account on the playstation network. first connect your ps3 to your modem with the Ethernet cable it came with and if this problem doesn't happen then you're good. to set it up wirelessly make sure you go into all the correct setting and also try disabling Upnp and this should help. if the problem continues go to http://portforward.com/ and set up a static ip (requires some advanced steps but should fix it )Help with ps3 online?
The exact same thing happened to me, you have to contact your internet service provider, our IPs box got hit by lightning, and we had to reset it.
This is because the PS3 is too greedy for internet in a way. It's so powerful that it's wi-fi overruns your computer's. But there is a solution. Here's how it goes:

I doubt PS3 will let you use dial up, its too laggy. Also, if you play online games, which obviously you want to, they won't let you because it makes you look like your cheating. So, I have a PS3 and I don't use dial up, use a router, or try getting wireless signal from unsecured signals, a lot of apparently do that.

Technically, it will work, just not very well.

i don't think that product connects to the Internet. if you have a modem or router, you can connect the PS3 through those, using the Ethernet cable that you got with the PS3, or if you have a wireless router, you can connect with that without needing to plug anything into the PS3.



if you don't have either of them you will have to buy a router of some kind. i have a BT Voyager for my PS3 and it works very well. i think mine was around 拢50. it has an Ethernet connection so you can plug the PS3 straight in. once you have the PS3 connected, go to network setting on the XMB and enter whatever information it asks for, then you can go to apply for psn. this will allow you to play games over the Internet and access the PS store. its completely free to do this

Hello, i have some questions about the online community for the PS3. I went on the Playstation website under PS3 and looked at the Playstation 3 Network. I only saw a little bit of it, but to me it kind of looked something like Xbox LIVE. My friend just bought Xbox LIVE for his X360 and it looks pretty cool with the gaming community and the chatting and everything. My first question is- Is the Playstation 3 Network simular to XLIVE? Do you get to like add friends and chat with them and stuff while your ingame? And in the PSNETWORK is there like a lobby like xlive with chat rooms and the ppl online and a list of the games theyre playing? And finally, are there like Bluetooth headsets to use with ps3 like they have for x360 Live? If so how do they work?PS3 Online community?
It's kind of similar to Xbox Live..



You can add friends and ';Voice Chat'; or send messages to them, but not during a game.

And, Sony is working a avatar-chat for the PS3 called ';Home'; which will be released this spring, it's like a lobby you can move around and customize your own avatar and, chat with new people and stuff. It also has a Playstation Store, so you could download, demo's, game trailers, ps3 themes and more.. You can also buy some stuff from there too.

For the bluetooth headsets, well.. It doesn't come with the PS3, you need to buy it seperately, any bluetooth set will work. You just scan it on your ps3 and when it locates it, click ';Register';.PS3 Online community?

To be honest, the PlayStation Network (PSN) is not nearly as good as Xbox Live (XBL). There is no way of contacting your friends while you're playing a game. You can add friends, if you know their display name, which is the equivalent to a XBL Gamertag. As of today, there is no lobby where you can ';socialize'; with other people. Unles you're in a game like FIFA 08or something like that. Hpwever I recomend looking up ';Home'; or PS Home. It is scheduled to come out sometime this year and would be like a giant lobby... but look it up, it is really interensting.

If you ask me the online community is not one of the strong points of the PS, by far XBL is way, way better.
Well the PS3 Network is a work in progress, there is no lobby, you can add friends but you can only send mail to them. And you can only talk ingame via a headset. I use my bluetooth headset that i bought for my cell phone. Its a motorla h550. The PS3 network is going to being update to look kinda of the sims. You will get your own house that you can get furnitre for. You can go out and socialize with other people in different areas. I forget what its called. They running a closed beta in the us right now if im not mistaken. I think its supposed to come out this year. It was awhile ago when i read about it. So the xbox360 is currently better, but sonys looks freaking awesome i can't wait til it comes out.

If you have a wireless router you can do wireless, even if you aren't in the same room. Good Wireless routers are $100+. Ask the people at circuit city about it.



If you do wired you need an Ethernet cable(comes with 80GB v.) and connect it to your router. *Make sure you don't have the DSL cord plugged in at the same time or it won't work.*



That's all you have to do it's really simple. I don't know what you can do except find a really long Ethernet cable or move your PS3.

An internet connection. Just call your cable service company and ask for internet. The ps3 has a port in the back for the ethernet cable that the cable router(internet thingie) plugs into. There's not much to it, just plug them all in and go.

PS3 Online? How is it?

I really want to get a PS3 Slim now over the XBOX 360 Elite but there is one deciding factor for me. The games I'm going to be playing are: NBA 2K10, Madden NFL 2010, FIFA 2010, COD:Modern Warefare 2, Grand Theft Auto 4, Need For Speed (the newest one), Batman: Arkham Asylum, and Dragon Ball Raging Blast. well all the games that you mentioned are massively online (can't wait till CoD:MW2) . and there is millions of people online all the time. And as far as voice chat goes you just need a blutooth headset like that you'd use for your mobile phone or sony has released their own PS3 headset but it's expensive. There are heaps of online PS3 players. PS3 does have headset use BUT it doesn't come with one. You can get the official PS3 headset or get a cheap headset that still works perfect. I have Madden and GTAIV and it doesn't lag at all but if it does lag for you it might just be your connection. You need broadband to play PS3 online and if you want a good connection in most games you will need at least 512kbps. The PS3 online is free and has great connection. I have never lagged in a game and I have only 1mbps. Call of Duty online is great on the PS3 because you all work together because 2/3 of PS3 players on COD have headsets. Trust me, the PS3 internet is great. Add me HaZdawg11!
Trust me the ps3 slim is going to be horrible. I have heard from a person that works for sony that it overheats after like two hours of playing. The bigger ps3 is more worth buying ive had it for 3 years and never had a problem with it the online is similar to xbox 360 but its free
I have had a 360 and a ps3 for awhile now and i have sold of my 360 for like 5 times now. IMHO ps3 is just a lot better. you pay for what you get. instead of paying a hefty price and then having to pay for more than what you bargained for. Online is smooth Voice chat is there in the game. and also allot of free stuff on the PSN. and a lot of exclusive games for PSN. Oh and dont forget the Blu-ray

You seem to have an issue here. You might have to ping your computer. Get the IP Addres through start - program - run and type cmd. in the dos window, type ipconfig.

use the ip address to connect to the explorer and try to follow the process to link your PS3. I hope it helps.
What it could be is that you might need to go to your router settings on your pc (get your router ip and type it in the address bar). Then try going to something called ';access list'; or something like that. This shows you all the devices that are permitted to use your network. Check your ps3 mac address and see if there is an unknown device in the list of devices that haven't yet been given permission to use your network. If it is just add it and apply. This is how i (finally) got my online working. Hope this helps.

Every other game I have I can play online no problems. I just bought call of duty modern warfare 2 for ps3 today and when I go to play online, it comes up with a screen where it says it's surching, updating me skills and whatnot and just sits on that screen forever, never loads! You may need to open some ports for it on your router if you have one.

Every time I select 'Find Game' online on the PS3 and all the different types of games modes pop up, instead of the game modes, 'DOWNLOADING SETTINGS' pops up. Now I have waited for it to actualy 'download the settings' but it takes 3 or so hours when before, it took no more than 2 minutes.



I have tried..

-turning the internet connection on and off

-waiting to see if after a few days it will disapear (been like this for nearly a month now)

-signing onto the internet in the game and out

-asking friends but they have no clue



Could someone please help me out? If you've had this problem, please tell me how you solved it.



And by the way, it isn't when you click online and it says downloading settings, cause I get online and I can go into the barracks, create a class etc. It's just when I go to find a game and private match.

I had this exact problem and it is quite simple to fix. Turn off your router and unplug all of its wires. Then do the same thing with the modem and swith your games console off.. Wait for about 20-30 secs and then plug the modem back in. When the modem shows all of its lights on then plug your router back in. This should work because i talked with the COD4 people. Keep closing your ps3. Shut the button on the back of your ps3 when you close it. Now open it back on and try it. If it doesnt work then keep shutting your ps3 off and do the same concept

OMG how do I get our PS3 online?

Okay. We have a cable comcast modem with the ethernet cable. I unplug it from my PC, turn off modem, plug it in to the PS3, wait a few seconds, turn it back on. I go to network settings on the menu, and try to set up the wired connection. All the computer talk is confusing. I followed the basic instructions, but I guess I have to set it up manually by punching in some codes. Where are these codes, what are they?

The code you are talking about is the IP address, MAC address, and other technical talk if the network setup doesn't work on easy setup maybe you should call comcast and see if you can exchange that modem for a router or try to plug in the ethernet while everything is on(PS3 and modem).

First, try restarting your router and your modem. If that doesn't work, check to make sure that your router is handing IP addressing via DHCP and not via static. You also might want to change the security method that your router is using. It could also be a compatibility issue between your router and the PS3. Some routers are gaming device friendly, and some are not. So do a search of your routers model number to see if it is compatible with the PS3 in wireless mode.



FYI - Gaming systems play much better with ethernet connections. There's a LOT more lag when you throw wireless connections in the mix. If you are unable to do so, I understand.

Plug the Ethernet cable from the modem into the PS3 instead of the PC, and you will have Internet on your PS3.



I'm not sure why you keep saying anything about lights in the Ethernet cable. None of my Ethernet cables have lights in them. The lights are not necessary for the cable to work.

OK, firstly u need a wireless router, (I'm with netgear router is DG834G)

then when u have it u have two choises, ill start with the easiest one first, get a Ethernet cable (it comes with the router but you can buy one if u need another one for Ur computer etc.) now at the back of your router there are 4 yellow ports (4 on mine) put one side of it in there and the other side at the back of the PS3 and set it up in network settings on your PS3



but if your PS3 is too far away from your router then you might need to go wireless, firstly you should setup your routers wireless settings on the computer on the routers homepage (mine is netgear so my homepage is 192.168.0.1 on the address bar) now you don't need anything else but to go to your PS3 and setup wireless under ';network settings';, if this does not work try another 4 times it ususally takes a while, if this still does not work you might need to check your wireless settings or put mac filtering on then turn security off (you're router will still be UN-hackable so don't worry!)

I think with the 360 you can buy one of those cards at Best Buy, or wherever, and activate an xbox 360 live account and play any game. Is that correct? I'm not certain with the PS3. I bought the system last week and tried to go online with MGS 4 tonight and ended up being asked by the publisher of the game, Konami, to pay them. Is that they way the Ps3 online gaming works? No no other publisher does that so don't worry and yes you can buy a card from Best Buy for LIVE, but PS3 online is free, or if you wanted to you could buy LIVE from your 360, which is much easier. Well i own a 360 and i think that xbox live is a great way to play your favorite games. It is also a great way to keep in touch with friends and meet new people. The new xbox live experience is also very entertaining. You get to make very own avatar and you can even stream netflix from your xbox. There are many more different types of feutures like buying games and movies online in the xbox live market place. The live cabibilties also give you the option of downloadable content such as extra maps or more sounds for Guitar hero.

i don't know much about it besides it is free and it sucks. Yes you can browse the web and yes they are releasing new features. BUT it is nothing like the xbox live experience. You don't have a friends list or dashboard or anything like that.

I have mine set up wirelessy



1) turn on ps3 and wireless router

2) go to network settings in ps3 main menu screen

3) select internet connections and then wireless

4) select scan and your wireless router should come up

5) select the router and then put in your wep code. this code should be available with the router instructions and such. Some routers may use different security but usually it's wep

5) Select easy and automatic for ip adress and configuration (i think that's what the steps say)

6) the next couple things you can select no for i think.

It's not that difficult to set-up online play. Just go to ';Network Settings'; just select auto config. The onscreen options after that will guide you thru the rest.

There are a lot of choice you can use for your head set, you should have no problems finding one in your price range. I got a Motorola because I can also use it with my cellphone and I have not had any problems using it with the ps3 also.

If you only have one port you will need a router. I recommend a wireless router with ethernet ports. (Some are wireless only, some are wired only get one that does both.) If you have wi-fi...then you don't need to plug anything in. Your PS3 should be able to connect wirelessly to your modem/gateway. Go into settings, under network settings, and go through the steps to setup a wireless connection. i depends on the demo, how long it will take. If the demo is a big file which most of the time they are it will take a longer time. Also it depends on your internet connection, my internet is an average speed and it takes me a few hours to download a demo... i think this is normal



i have a 60gb ps3 also, and it says that i have x / 55gb free space this is because of the ps3's OS (operating system) whisch uses up some of the memory on your hard drive... so technically yes your ps3 is 55gb because you can only use and access 55gb of the full 60gb....



if you want more memory i would reccomend you buy a new hard drive, you can buy a 500gb one for not that expensive. the PS store isnt blazingly fast, if loads of people are downalodign the demo then it will take longer, also some of the demos are over 1gb so dont expect that to downlaod too quick.

I always end up just getting the

message, which would then never go away. If I get your message then I would always end up going in ok.



However, to get round my problem with just the ';Connecting to Matchmaking Server'; problem - and you can try this if you want to with your problem - but as I don't usually play until about 9pm I turn my PS3 on when I get home and load up modern warfare 2 and go through to the multiplayer component. I don't then click through any further for now! My wife then watches loads of soaps, I put the little one to bed, and at 9pm I then click on the X button for Play Online and it goes straight in! Its done this for the last week and I've been able to get in. Before I have always had trouble when first loading up the game and not waiting to then load up multiplayer.



Now obviously you might not want to wait as long as I do, but maybe try to get your PS3 loaded up maybe half an hour before or then try quarter of an hour before until you find the magic number of minutes!
Haha! I Get That For About 3 Seconds, Most of the time it lets me on, but the odd time it says sumat stupid like could not connect to matchmaking server, so when i do it again it puts me straight in! Shimples! ;-)

I think it still is. Most are playing Killzone 2 online like me. But the fullest it can get it up to 16 players. The average amount i would say is around 5-10 players. I think there's like 15 different type of game modes in gta, anyways have fun.

Ok do this, Confirm that an Ethernet cable is not connected to the PS3 system.

Select Network Settings under Settings in the home menu.

You could start by asking in the playstation section not the pc section.



You are indeed wandering around in Home. Doesn't it suck how you can't shoot anyone in Home? You can't even jump, or walk on the grass, or anything. All you can do is walk around and talk to people.



Don't bother with Home anymore, most of us ps3 owners hate it. There are portals to start games of Warhawk, but in general to get online in a game, start the game.



Hit the PS button and quit Home, then start up MGS4, and you'll see the online options there.

I had to configure my router manually and then configure my network connection on my PS3 accordingly to what I did with my Router.

The PS3 has a built in wireless adaptor, if your house is not set up for wireless then you will have to run the ethernet cable from your modem/router and plug it into the PS3. From there you will have to go to settings and do a quick setup to connect.

Me to.. I was also having problems staying connected to the playstation network with the 80710092 and 8071053D errors. So i found them and opened my port forwarding in my new Linksys WRT-610n router. Now my Download and Upload speeds are faster, but i still cant get online with it. I put SOCOM to see if i could get online with that so it must be they are working on the Servers. They should give a notice for the people taking the day off to play.I'm going to try going to the Game Data Utillity and uninstall the warfare 2 file (will not lose your saves) and reinstall to see if i can get back online. I am having the same problem guys. I verified that my internet connection is working correctly and the PS3 is seeing it. However, when I attempt to log in, it just gets stuck on the please wait blah blah screen. This is immediately after I downloaded the most recent update. Hooray for updates that make things worse! Hope this gets fixed ASAP because its a holiday = day off!
I think Infinity Ward have done this on purpose out of respect. We wouldnt want to hear MW2 blasting away on some youths Dolby Surrrond 5.2 system whilst observing a two minute silence for rememberence day now would we!!! Besides it gives IW a chance to evaluate the servers after a days heavy use. I had big troubles connecting to my clan yesterday, hopefully this will be sorted. Be patient, the game will be back on soon.

Today, I downloaded the 1.02 update, loaded the game as normal... and when i click ';online'; it connects to the server, but wont stop loading the unlocks and ranks and the other one...

The mobile broadband sticks carry embedded software. Weather or not you are able to install and run it on the PS3 (i'm aware you can run software on the PS3) is another story. As far as getting the trasnfer rate necessary to play any games online is a VERY slim to none chance. I've done this before, you put the broadband stick into your computer, get an ethernet cable, connect the cable into the computer and the PS3, and then you go into your internet connection properties, and click ';share this internet connection';. You don't have to use a wireless connection for the ps3. You can directly plug in the Ethernet cord into the back. Then you can just have internet that way.



Also two other things remember you will need high speed internet. I have been trying to play modern warfare 2 online and today and yesterday when I tried to play, it found me a game it started gliching and lagging and I was transporting everywhere then it brought me back to the lobby and said you have been disconnected from the server. GTA 4 online play seems to be having some problems. Lots of people have been complaining that they couldn't get online since the game was launched.Gta 4 online ps3 help?

playstation.com look at the manual. I have mine connected wirelessly but I have my PS2 connected with the cable. I just plug it in and done.

When did you buy your PS3?



I purchased one of the 20GB models when the PS3 was first released and it doesn't have wireless capability. The only option to connect to the internet is via ethernet. It also does not have the various media card slots that other models like the 60GB have.

its probably cause u have a 20 gig and 20 gigs need either a eithernet cable or a wirless adapter that u need to buy
if you have a router you can set your ps3 wireless when in set up opt for wireless connection then search for your router name enter pass key and should connect if you have no router just a ,modem then you have no choice but to connect with a ethernet cable ..

360 is by far the better online system. Better games for it online, better layout and just an overall better feel. As for connecting it, buy an ethernet cable, plus one end to the back of your 360 and the other end into your router.What would be better online,PS3 or Xbox 360?..........?

Definitely the 360 is better for online. I have PS3, no 360, but even though Xbox Live is $50/year, it is well worth the cost of admission. Especially if you have friends that have the system. However, Sony is coming out with their Home Service soon, which I think might be pretty good. Only time will tell, but I'd give the nod to 360.

For online? Xbox360..... even PS3 fans will say Xbox360. ON 360, free downloads, free game trails, webcam and microphones. You don't even need a game you can just download free trails. PS3? They claim it's free but if you check your internet bill after connecting... you'll notice it's 拢100 pound extra. Happened to my friends.
Xbox live has been out longer so it is more organized and has few advantages over the PSN. I personally like the PSN better because of the simplicity of it. Although the blu-tooth headsets are somewhat harder to use than the regular Xbox Live headset. You also cant mute your headset off and on like the Xbox 360 controllers. I dont talk much anyways, so this isnt that much of a problem.
Xbox 360 online is better, you get what you pay for.



Yeah sure Sony online is free, however i heard they going to make it better and also you have to pay for it too.

GTA4 Online (PS3)- Why am I dying in one hit?

I've been playing for weeks now, and it seems that no matter how much ammo I unload, and no matter how much health and/or armor I have, I ALWAYS die in one hit! Is this a glitch, is something wrong with my PS3? Or is there some secret to killing everyone in one hit regardless of distance, weapon, or auto-aim/manual aim? Fire truck water cannon:

it is because they are aiming at your head and shooting you with the first bullets to come out of their gun, dont hold your finger on the trigger because only your first few bullets that come out take of energy, press trigger repeatedly, this is what i do,example: if im hiding behind a corner and i can see someone approaching trying to kill me, i use my right analogue stick so i can see them in view but they cant shoot me because in hiding behind wall, when you can see them in view you can lock onto them with aim even when your behind wall,then when aim is locked on them i push my right analogue up so its pointing at their head, (now for the part where you need to be fast), move from behind the wall making sure you are still locked on and aiming for the head and then dodge back behind the wall for cover,make sure your FIRST 3-4 bullets that come out of your gun hit his head and he should die,(for some reason your 5th 6th 7th 8th bullet wont take energy of opponent so dont hold down trigger,let go and re-apply,
