How do i go online with XBOX 360?

i am new 2 xbox 360, how do i get online, is it like the ps3 (i got one) where i can just use wifi and search for a network or do i need to buy something for my xbox to go online

if you are close to a router or a modem the xbox console comes with a blue ethernet chord that plugs in to your xbox console and connects it to the internet through the modem/router or you can buy a wireless adapter and connect it to wifi
you can either plug a Ethernet connection directly into a modem or router to go online or if you want wifi you need the wireless network adapter
