DNS Error with connecting PS3 direct to cable modem, help?

I'm trying to get a friends PS3 online, problem is that I can get it to recognize my IP, but it always has a ';DNS'; error when trying to connect to a server, saying it can't communicate.

I've tried entering the information the best I could in the network connection settings, but I always get that DNS error. I believe I have the DNS servers entered in right, the IPs right, I don't know what default router means but I set that as my default ';gateway'; since that's the closest thing I could find.

This was so automatic on my PS2! I'm not sure what to do, I've been at this thing for hours. Any insight or help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

Also, I've heard that resetting my modem while connected to the PS3 will allow it to communicate automatically, but I'm not sure how to go about doing that since mine has a backup battery. Not sure if it's a good idea either.DNS Error with connecting PS3 direct to cable modem, help?
Can't you do automatic configuration like the PS2 has?

If you can't, try putting your router as the DNS server, as they often pass through DNS requests. It's possible you got the DNS servers wrong.DNS Error with connecting PS3 direct to cable modem, help?
the default router is the router you are going to use to connect, the ps3 should pick it up if you have it set up correctly, try doing it all manually rather than using a automatic setting.
Look at the IP configuration on a PC you have on the same network (perform an ipconfig from a command line on that PC) and see what the IP address is for the DNS server and then manually enter it in to the DNS server setting for your PS3.
