im going to buy a playstation 3 with 250gb, but before i do, i want to know how that much space can be used? i know about pictures and song can be copied and stored into the ps3 internal HD, i also know that the space can be use to download demos and when buying and downloading games from the ps3 online store as well as the saved games from each game u play. But, i dont think that will get it full.... now my real questions are: if you buy a ps3 game (disc) can u save it to the ps3 internal memory? that way the disc is not necessary? if u buy a movie(dvd) can u save it to the memory of the ps3? what else u can do with the space besides all the things i listed?
thanks!
i also forgot to ask if ya had any problems with the ps3 slim?
also forgot to ask if u can copy .avi files from a cd or flashdrive?PS3 250gb question? im new to playstation...?
I used to have a 60gb and I never filled it up with game saves and data. You can if you fill it up with media data, in that case I would recommend buying a much bigger HDD or simply stream your media through your computer with tversity.
This a link to a possible hack to play games from the HDD but nothing is confirmed yet.

No, you can't copy disc games onto the hard drive. Same for DVD movies. These are very serious copyright violations which are enforced by the FBI and can get you fines in the six figure range. Most PS3 games need to install only a portion of the game data on the drive for the sake of speedy loading times. Some games install more than other. I guarantee you, however, that you will always always need the disc no matter how much data is actually installed.
You pretty much listed everything you can save onto the drive. Also, select video formats can be stored as well. However, its mainly MPEG and MP4. Only some AVI files work because AVI is more of a ';container'; of files; it can have files the PS3 won't recognize which means the PS3 won't play it despite being AVI file format.
Don't be so concerned about trying to fill the hard drive. Its better to have unused space that isn't needed rather than need space and not have it. Besides, you'll have a hard time filling it anytime soon. I have 7 games, about 8 porno videos, 60 photos, Playstation Home, Life With Playstation, 20 or so demos, and enough music files to open up my own CD store and I still have about 115 GB left on my 250 GB hard drive.
I certainly know for sure you can't copy a game into the HD. You need the disc to play it unless you downloaded the game from the Playstation Store.
I have had the 120 GB slim since it came out and it has no problems whatsoever.
with some games you can install part of it onto the ps3 for faster loading but you still need the disk. You cant install the whole game onto the ps3. You cant copy movie onto the ps3 from a dvd. But you can copy an avi file from a flash drive.
